PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal halide lamp which does not include mercury, has white light radiation approximated to black-body radiation, allows a lamp voltage characteristic to be raised to a proper value, and is excellent in a service life characteristic; and to provide a metal halide lamp lighting device and an illuminating device. SOLUTION: A metal halide lamp MHL comprises an airtight container 1 made of a silica glass; a pair of electrodes 1b, 1b enclosed in the air tight container 1; and a discharge medium which includes a first halide made of metal halides for performing desired light emission, a second halide having two or more kinds of metal halides as the main ingredient. The metal halides for the second halide include at least zinc (Zn) and manganese (Mn), and do not include aluminum (Al); and metal having a relatively high vapor pressure, are hard to emit light in the visible region comparing to the first halide, and emit light in a wavelength of 460 to 490 nm.
