<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate construction in a site and to positively expand and contract a spigot in the movement of the ground caused by an earthquake or the like. <P>SOLUTION: In this jacking method, a pipeline is newly installed in a sheath pipe P' while inserting the spigot 1 of a pipe P into a socket 2 of a preceding pipe P to connect the pipes P. The pipe joint structure is movable within a predetermined length range on condition that the spigot 1 does not axially come off the socket 2. A jacking force transmission member 14 having strength for transmitting a jacking force is interposed between the end of the socket 2 and a saddle-like flange 20 pressure-fixed to the outer periphery of the spigot 1. In jacking, the tip of the spigot 1 is thereby positioned in the middle of the required movable length to be jacked. If the great compressive force of the earthquake or the like is applied, the expansion and contraction of the spigot 1 to the socket is allowed by contraction or collapse. The flange 20 is pressure-fixed to the outer periphery of the spigot by the fastening force of divided faces and thereby easily mounted in the field.
