PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing an optically activeα-methylalkane dicarboxylic acid-ω-monoester and its antipode diester in high optical purity. SOLUTION: The method for producing (R)- and (S)-isomers of theα-methylalkane dicarboxylic acid-ω-monoester involves reacting a racemic body of a specificα-methylalkane dicarboxylic acid diester with a cultured product, biomass or a biomass-treated product of a microorganism having ability for asymmetrically hydrolyzing an ester bond.
