The device determines the air volume (VL) in a tank of volume (VT), and the volume of remaining fuel (VK) is determined from the difference between the tank volume and the air volume. The air volume is determined from a pressure drop and the quantity of removed fuel. An independent claim is included for a method of determining the amount of fuel in a tank.
