PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the link connecting force of a chain by suppressing deformation of its outer plate(s) when the chain is cut. SOLUTION: The chain 22 for a bicycle consists of outer links 30, inner links 31, coupling pins 32, and rollers 33, wherein each outer link has a pair of outer plates 35 arranged confronting each other at a certain spacing in between. Each inner link has a pair of inner plates 40 located inside of the outer plates 35 in the alternate arrangement in such a way as overlapping partially. The coupling pins are mounted as penetrating the overlapping portions of the plates 35 and 40 for coupling them together, and each has a middle part 32a and swell-out parts 32b formed at the two ends of the middle part 32a in a large diameter by means of caulking and engaged with the outer side faces of the outer plates. Also the coupling pin is furnished at the two ends with third recesses 32c in circular shape, wherein the bottom diameter of the third recess 32c is 60-90% of the outside diameter of the middle part 32a.
