A switching device for coupling a main pneumatic conveying duct 12 with branch ducts 16 and (14), Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a curved tubular switch duct 46 having one end rotatably coupled at 48 to the main duct and its opposite open end adapted to be coupled to a selected oneof the branch ducts, support means 62 mounting said duct for rotation about an axis coaxial with said one end and the main duct between first and second positions wherein the open end of the switch duct is aligned with the branch ducts 16 and (14) respectively, first actuating means for rotating said switch duct between the first and second positions, a coupling sleeve 102 slidably mounted on the switch duct, and second actuating means for selectively moving said sleeve into and out of coupling engagement with the branch ducts. The switch duct is mounted in a support cradle 62 which has a shaft 72 coaxial with the said one end of the duct and supported in a fixed bearing 74 so that the cradle and switch duct are rotatable together about the axis of its said one end and the main duct. An arm 82 secured to the shaft 74 is coupled to a pneumatic or hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly (88), Fig. 3, not shown, to define the said first actuating means, extension and retraction of said assembly rotating the cradle and the switch duct to branch ducts 14 and 16, respectively. The coupling sleeve 104 is slidably engaged with the selected branch duct by a pneumatic or hydraulic piston/cylinder assembly 110 connected to the sleeve by toggle linkages formed by pairs of links 120 and triangular plates 118, over-centre action of the linkage locking the sleeve in engagement with the selected branch duct. The coupling sleeve includes a sealing gasket 104 which is engaged by a removable flanged (14a, 14b or 16a, 16b) of the selected branch duct, Fig. 9 (not shown). The said one end of the switch duct is supported by a bearing assembly comprising three rollers 58 and 60.
