The invention relates to a crusher (1), its use particularly for crushing oil shale and a method in crushing of solid matter. The crusher comprises : a rotor (37) provided with cogs (39) fixed to the frame (2) of the device. The rotor has been arranged to rotate about its longitudinal axis; an actuator (10) for rotating the rotor; at least two comb-like counter blades (33) fixed to the frame of the device by an articulation (38), with the counter cogs (36) of which counter blades the cogs of the rotor have been arranged to intermesh. The counter blades have been arranged to be separately turned about the shaft (38) of the articulation; detecting means for detecting a disturbance; an actuator (4) for turning that counter blade, in which the disturbance has been detected, about its articulated shaft.
