PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed controller for a water jet propulsion boat, capable of returning a speed mode to normal by releasing automatic cruise control at the time of stopping of an engine. SOLUTION: On the water jet propulsion boat 10, a controller switching the speed mode between a normal mode and a speed setting mode according to operation of an automatic cruise switch 56 is provided. If engine speed is stopped or almost stopped in the speed setting mode, the speed mode returns to the normal mode. Operation of the automatic cruise switch 56 is made to be effective when the speed mode is operated to be the speed setting mode after the normal mode. Time until the engine speed reaches a setting value when setting to the speed setting mode, is set to be longer than time until the engine speed reaches a predetermined value.
