PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct highly accurate welding control in a simple system at a low cost while performing automatic discrimination with a computer. SOLUTION: In the welding control method, superposed members to be welded are photographed by an infrared image pickup unit 5, imaging the heat distribution in the periphery of the welding point of the members to be welded at the time of welding and then, by obtaining an isothermal line from the image, the welding condition is discriminated on the basis of the isothermal line to change the welding conditions. The welding control apparatus is composed of the infrared image pickup unit 5 by which the superposed members to be welded are photographed at the time of welding to form the image of the heat distribution in the periphery of the welding point, an image processor 7 which calculates the isothermal line based on the heat distribution of the image, a discrimination means by which the welding condition is discriminated on the basis of the isothermal line, and a controller 4 which changes the welding conditions based on the discrimination result.
