PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of specifying a very small amount of chemical substances for monitoring environment for conserving environment, since environmental pollution due to dioxins, environmental hormones, etc. has caused serious social problems in recent years. SOLUTION: In the technique using at least one type of frequency converting element for identifying substances, the substances are identified through the use of a frequency-converting element, such as a quartz oscillator, by determining a differential coefficient of an initial change rate of an approximate curve due to frequency changes, caused when substances are adsorbed.
