PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing mechanism for a rotating machine capable of enduring frequent start and stop of operation by reducing thermal stress to be generated between a low-hard metal layer of the inner peripheral surface of a bearing and a bearing base metal when operating a rotor for rated rotation or when increasing the number of rotation of the rotor. SOLUTION: The bearing structure for a rotating machine is formed with a low-hardness metal layer 2 such as white metal near a sliding surface to be slid with the rotor, and the bearing base metal 2a in other parts is structured of a structural steel. An intermediate metal layer 2c having a coefficient of thermal expansion near that of the low-hardness metal layer 2b is formed between the low-hardness metal layer 2b and the structural steel to form a three-layer structure, and thermal stress to be generated between the low-hardness metal layer 2b and the bearing base metal 2a when rotating the rotor is thereby reduced.
