Copper alloy component consists of a surface structure which has been modified to a depth of up to 4 mm using high energy radiation. The modified edge layer has a more fine grained structure than the outer surface. The structure consists of martensitic and bainitic phases. In addition to copper, the component also contains iron, nickel, manganese, and zinc.
