PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the processing time, from the decision display of the start of reproduction until the actual display of a reproduced image. SOLUTION: A device for reproducing contents has a selective image display means 110 for displaying a selected image plane; and a look-ahead command generating means 112 for detecting a user selective operation on the selected image plane, supposing the selection of a specific content, and generating a read command. The device further has a content storing means 114 for reading and storing the specific content from a storage medium, in response to the read command, a content decision means 116 for deciding the reproducing content, in response to an actual selective input, and a content reproducing means 118 for reading and reproducing the decided content from the content storage means. According to such a constitution, the processing time from the decision display of the start of the reproduction to the actual display of the reproduced image is shortened, and the intervals of the reproduction start times for each content can be filled.
