PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color electrophotographic device in which the number components is reduced to the smallest that is necessary, assembly is simplified, material costs is reduced and also configuration space is minimized. SOLUTION: The color electrophotographic device has a photoreceptor and a plurality of detachable developing devices. In the contact/ separation operation of each of the developing devices, the power with which the developing device is brought into close contact with the photoreceptor is the force with which a helical gear is pulled in, the helical gear being driven on one side of the main body of the color electrophotographic device. Also, the apparatus includes a mechanism by which the force with which the developing device is in contact with the side of the main body of the color electrophotographic device is used for smoothing the movement of the developing device in the direction of the main body of the color electrophotographic device.
