PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a can type battery which is improved in rigidity against the external force at the safety valve part by evading thermal effect at welding and which is easy in recovery of the reactant gas discharged from the safety valve part, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The can type storage battery 100 has a power generating element 3, an outer packaging can 1 for sealing the power generating element 10, and a sealing lid 2 fitted to the outer packaging can 1. The outer packaging can 1 and the sealing lid 2 are integrated by laser welding. Furthermore, a rib part 22 which protrudes in the surroundings of the safety valve part 21 is provided at the sealing lid 2.
