<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a partial heat treatment method for the member to be heat-treated capable of corresponding to the formation of a complicated hardened layer pattern and also capable of making productivity satisfactory, and to provide a device therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In the partial heat treatment method where only the specified part 1a in the member 1 to be heat-treated is subjected to heat treatment, the heat treatment includes an induction heating stage 20 where only the specified part 1a is subjected to induction heating and a cooling stage 30 which is performed thereafter. To the carrying direction of the member to be heat-treated, on the upstream side, a first heating apparatus 11A for performing continuous heating is arranged, and on the downstream side, a second heating apparatus 11B for performing stop heating is arranged. In the induction heating stage, at the time when a complicated hardened layer pattern is required, after continuous heating by the first heating apparatus 11A, stoppage heating by the second heating apparatus 11B is performed, and, at the time when a complicated hardened layer pattern is not required, only continuous heating by the first heating apparatus 11A is performed.
