<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method, which enable optical beam scanning to be properly controlled by using an optical detection sensor, without causing damage to a latent image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: An amplitude value of a deflecting system is set at a maximum amplitude value or more by performing amplitude securing processing (step S1) in advance of the lighting of a laser light source. After that, the laser light source is lit. Thus, scanning is done in such a manner that an optical beam has already passed through at least a horizontal synchronizing sensor at the time of the lighting of the laser light source. This can prevent the optical beam from converging on a part of a photoreceptor, and can surely prevent a deterioration in the photoreceptor. Additionally, the scanning optical beam passes through the horizontal synchronizing sensor, so that a horizontal synchronizing signal can be surely output from the horizontal synchronizing sensor. This enables the scanning speed of the optical beam to be properly adjusted with a high degree of precision on the basis of the signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
