PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recorder in which a user can record a plurality of related images continuously on a recording medium unconsciously of alteration in format. SOLUTION: When related images of continuous shooting photography are recorded in a recorder capable of identifying a plurality of formats in the same recording medium, they are recorded with a file name next to a previously recorded file name of second format if the remaining recordable capacity of first format is insufficient. If the remaining recordable capacity of first format becomes insufficient during recording of video image, the file is closed without interrupting photography of video image, subsequent video images are recorded in second format and the video image file recorded in first format is associated with the video image file recorded in second format.
