The present invention relates to an oxidation catalytic system which comprises an imide compound and a co-catalyst comprising a compound containing a Group 7A element of the Periodic Table of Elements, and a compound containing a Group 8 element of the Periodic Table of Elements. The present invention further relates to a process for oxidation which comprises the step of contacting a substrate with oxygen in the presence of said oxidation catalytic system.
