<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize appropriate density correction of the entire image, while ensuring stable reproducibility even for parts of characters. <P>SOLUTION: A development bias altering part alters a development bias so that the density of each full-dot density patch formed by a density sensor attains to a predetermined density (S4). An exposure condition alterating part alters exposure conditions so that the density of the density patch composed of a plurality of separate dots attains to a predetermined density (S7). After the corrections, based on the density of each of the density patches of different gradations detected by the density sensor, a gamma correction value altering part calculates a gamma correction value, at which the gradation characteristic of each density patch can be converted into a predetermined gradation characteristic.
