PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable automatic changeover to a spare unit and replacement of a faulty unit in failure of a protocol conversion unit in a protocol conversion device housing a number of lines. SOLUTION: A main changeover part 201 and an independent changeover part 202 are provided inside the protocol changeover unit, and a line from a terminal is subjected to wired OR connection between the main changeover part 201 and the adjoining independent changeover part 202. In failure, the main changeover part 201 is turned off, the adjoining independent changeover part 202 is turned on and the main changeover part 201 of the spare protocol conversion unit is turned on by a control part 3, thus enabling changeover to the spare protocol conversion unit.
