PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can easily detect a head unit interval difference. SOLUTION: The printer 100 is equipped with a printing head with a first, a second and a third head units; an image detecting means; and a head unit interval difference detecting means 70 for detecting the head unit interval difference. The head unit interval difference detecting means 70 detects the head unit interval difference between an interval between the first and second head units of the printing head, and an interval between the second and third head units, on the basis of detection information of a test pattern printed by the first and second head units of the printing head, and detection information of a test pattern printed by the second and third head units which are detected by the image detecting means.
