PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retractable mechanical pencil, in which the adjusting range of the amount of a lead feeding by a push-button operation can easily be set to designed amounts continuously adjustably and, its production can be realized inexpensively. SOLUTION: In a retractable mechanical pencil 1, a lead case 7 is axially movably inserted in a rear shaft 3, at the fore end of which a tubular joint fitting 10 is mounted, so as to mount a chuck 12 with a clamping ring 11 externally fitted thereto at the fore end of the lead case 7 under the form that a halting part 11a provided on the outer peripheral surface of the clamping ring 11 can halt to the fore end 10b of the tubular joint fitting 10 and, at the same time, a fore shaft 2 with a tip fitting 5 having an axial through-hole 13 mounted at its fore end is axially movably mounted through threading so as to change a gap L1 between the halting stepped part 18 provided in the through-hole 13 and the fore end 11b of the clamping ring 11. Simultaneously, a first halting stepped part 15 is provided at the fore outer peripheral surface of the tubular joint fitting 10 so as to regulate the forward moving range of the fore shaft 2 by abutting the fore end 2a of the fore shaft 2 against the first halting stepped part 15.
