Systems and methods for dynamic installation of modular software applications (140) or hardware device drivers (130) are provided. A wireless communication device (20) sends a request to an update module server (60) identifying a requested software or hardware module (140, 130). The update module server (60) responds with an instruction set for installing the requested module and the software or hardware module itself. Upon receipt, the device (20) executes the instruction set to install the requested module, making any necessary adjustments or deletions to data in persistent storage (240) in order to accommodate the requested module (140, 130). Subsequently, the wireless communication device (20) is reconfigured or rebooted to complete the installation and configuration.
