The method involves recording a signal equivalent to the switching force of an electric actuator, during a gear switching operation. The signal is compared with a reference value with regard to its magnitude. The switching operation is evaluated on the basis of the comparison of the signal with the reference value. The signal equivalent to the switching force of the actuator is the current recorded by the actuator. An independent claim is also included for a device for the evaluation of switching operations of a gear.
