A universal composition of a pearly dispersed pigment to be used for surface coatings, consisting of (a) a pearly pigment component and (b) a liquid component containing water, which functions as a carrier for the pigment component. It is characterised in that the liquid carrier component contains dispersed hydrated sodium-lithium-magnesium silicate as a tixotropic substance, which maintains the pearly pigment in the suspension.
