The line has a silencer (2) defined by a case, and an inlet pipe (8) connected to an internal combustion engine and opening inside the case. An orientation unit (10) is provided for orienting displacement of the silencer and/or pipe in the direction of a stop (11), in case of a displacement of the line relative to a vehicle chassis under the effect of an impact, to interrupt the displacement of the line in the direction of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine and an exhaust line.
