New process for the synthesis of 1,3-dihydro-2H-3-benzazepin-2-one compounds, and application in the synthesis of ivabradine and addition salts thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid

A process for the synthesis of 1,3-dihydro-2H-3-benzazepin-2-one compounds of formula (I) is disclosed, wherein a compound of formula (IV) is subjected to an alkylation reaction using the compound of formula (V), in an organic or hydro-organic solvent, in the presence of a base selected from sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonia in aqueous solution, carbonates and bicarbonates, to yield, after isolation, the compound of formula (I). The substituents for the variables shown in formulae (I), (IV) & (V) are as defined in the specification. These compounds of formula (I) are useful as intermediate compounds in the synthesis of ivabradine.
