PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a periphery confirming apparatus capable of expanding a display region of a video image in a direction wherein the necessity of calling the attention of a driver is high by not taking into account a behavior of the driver immediately before but taking into account a running state of a vehicle or the like. SOLUTION: The periphery confirming apparatus is provided with a direction specifying section 10 for specifying a direction wherein the necessity of calling the attention of the driver for subsequent drive of the vehicle is high in response to a running state of the vehicle detected by a running state detection section 8, and a display region for displaying a video image of a camera for imaging the direction specified by the direction specifying section 10 among display regions for displaying video images by a rear camera 1, a left side camera 2, and a right side camera 3 is expanded more than the display regions for displaying the video images of the other cameras to display the video images of the rear camera 1, the left side camera 2, and the right side camera 3.
