LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE HAVING SAME

A liquid crystal display of CPA type in which the display definition degradation due to application of stress on the liquid crystal panel is suppressed. The liquid crystal display comprises a first substrate, a second substrate, and a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer provided between them. A first electrode provided in each picture element region on the liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate has a solid portion where a conductive film is formed and a non-solid portion where no conductive film is formed. Each solid portion includes unit solid sections substantially surrounded by the non-solid portion and arranged at least along a first direction. In the liquid crystal layer in the picture element region, a liquid crystal domain having radial gradient alignment is formed on each unit solid section because of an oblique electric field produced at the edge of each non-solid portion when a voltage is applied. The length along the first direction of the unit solid section is 70 mum or less.
