The electromagnetic chain adjuster has an electromechanical control member (1) for an open-loop system. A controller is connected to the electromechanical control member and laid so that the track tension is readjustable to a pre-determined value as a function of an engine speed and on engine speed-dependent parameters. A dynamometer measures the track tension and with a control device, the track tension as a function of a measured track tension is measured. Engine speed-dependent parameters are readjustable to a pre-determined value. An independent claim is included for a method.
