Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device having high luminous efficiency, high heat resistance and extremely long life. Specifically disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device wherein an organic thin film layer composed of one or more layers including at least a light-emitting layer is interposed between a cathode and an anode. The light-emitting layer contains a fused ring-containing compound and a red luminescent metal complex. It is preferable that the fused ring-containing compound is used as a host material, while the red luminescent metal complex is used as a phosphorescent dopant.
