PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile terminal and method in which a voice message can be converted into a character message, and then stored to a restricted memory. SOLUTION: Disclosed herein is mobile communication terminal for performing a voice-text message conversion process that includes a memory 100, which includes message areas for storing voice and character messages and stores required condition information for the voice-character message conversion process; a voice data detecting unit which extracts voice signal from a voice message; a voice-character converting unit 400, which converts the voice signal to a character message; and a control unit 200, which checks whether the voice message requires the voice-character message conversion process, based on the condition information, converts the checked voice message to a character message through the voice data detecting unit 300 and the voice-character converting unit, and stores the character message to the character message area of the memory.
