PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for detecting the end parts of a band-like body capable of accurately detecting the edge positions of the band-like body even if the tip of the band-like body such as a metal band is passed, the tail end thereof is wound up, and the metal band fluctuates, and a method of winding up the band-like body capable of preventing a coil from being displacedly wound. SOLUTION: In this method of detecting the end parts of the band-like body, the lateral end parts of the band-like body 15 are detected by using the results of measurement by an optical detector 1 measuring the end parts of the band-like body 15 and the results of measurement by a range finder 13 measuring a distance between the optical detector 1 and the band-like body 15.
