A method for the manufacture of polycarbonate by combining methane (10) and inlet water (16) to produce methanol (12), converting the methanol (12) to propylene (18), gasoline aromatics (28), and gasoline olefins (26), converting the propylene (18) and gasoline olefins (26) to hydrogen (42), first benzene (34), and toluene (36), reacting the first benzene (34) with propylene (50) to form cumene (54), reacting the cumene (54) with oxygen (56) to form cumene hydroperoxide (60), cleaving the cumene hydroperoxide (60) to produce acetone (66) and phenol (64), reacting the phenol (64), and optionally additional phenol, and acetone (66) to produce a dihydric aromatic compound (70), and reacting the dihydric aromatic compound with a carbonate precursor to form polycarbonate.
