PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator apparatus enabling the saving of space in the elevator apparatus in which a plurality of cars are driven by a hoist. SOLUTION: This elevator apparatus comprises a plurality of cars 2 and 3 lifting along a guide rail, a main rope 5 connecting the plurality of cars 2 and 3 to each other, a drive sheave 12 around which the main rope 5 is wrapped, and the hoist 11 to which the drive sheave 12 is fitted. When the vertical projection of the plurality of cars 2 and 3 is positioned between the vertical projections of the plurality of cars 2 and 3 and either of the plurality of cars 2 and 3 is positioned at the uppermost floor, the lower end of the hoist 11 is set to a position lower than the upper end of the car.
