[Class 83 (iii)] A tool turret, for an automatic lathe, mounted on an axis parallel to that of the lathe spindle and having tool-slides actuated consecutively and independently of one another is characterised in that, each tool-slide is secured to a separate auxiliary slide, each of which carries a movement transmitting device on its outer face adapted, at one position of rotation, to come into engagement with an actuating member for controlling the movements of the tool-slides. The rotatably mounted head 1 carries tool-slides 3 which are connected by rods 12 to auxiliary operating slides 4 carried at the rear of the locking disc 10. The slides 4 are provided with angularly adjustable camplates 6 with slots 31 on the upper faces adapted to be engaged at the working station by a roller 30 carried on an arm integral with a screwed sleeve 29. A lead screw 28, driven by automatically reversible gearing, moves the sleeve and thus the tool-slide within the limits of stops 34, 35, which are engaged by a lug 33 on the sleeve, the former stop effecting reversal of the screw while the latter stops the feed movement. The turret is indexed by a roller 15 on the cam disc 16 engaging a Geneva wheel 14 secured to the turret spindle. The shaft 17 for driving the indexing and locking mechanism rotates continuously and is coupled to the shaft 18 for driving the disc 16 by a stop 32 on the feed sleeve 29 which, at the same time as the stop 35 is operated to stop the lead screw, actuates through linkage a one-revolution clutch 20 which thus enables shaft 17 to drive the indexing mechanism one revolution and index the turret through one station. A cam 19 on the shaft 18 lifts the locking plunger 31 against a spring 25 just prior to the indexing movement. Spring-pressed latches 36 retain the tool-slides against movement in their withdrawn position until a new feed movement is commenced.
