Disclosed is a plasma display wherein luminance, life and reliability of the PDP are improved by preventing deterioration of the phosphor layers. Also disclosed is a method for producing a phosphor used in such a plasma display. The plasma display comprises a plasma display panel wherein a plurality of discharge cells and phosphor layers (110R, 110G, 110B) of colors corresponding to the respective discharge cells are arranged and the phosphor layers (110R, 110G, 110B) emit light when excited by ultraviolet light. The green phosphor layer (110G) contains a green phosphor composed of Zn2 SiO4:Mn, and at least the ratio of zinc (Zn) to silicon (Si) near the surface is 2/1 to 2.09/1. The green phosphor is positively or zero charged.
