PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metadata generation device capable of providing a common operation environment to users when metadata of a content are generated, and of generating metadata of a format standardized in image, sound and the like. SOLUTION: This metadata generation device 1 is characterized by that zone information is extracted from a content by selecting and operating one of a plurality of zone information extraction modules SM for extracting, as zone information, a start time and an end time in a certain event of the content by a zone information extraction module selection means 10; semantic information is extracted from the content by selecting and operating one of a plurality of semantic information extraction modules LM for extracting, by a semantic information extraction module selection means 12, semantic information representing detail of the content by relating it to time; and zone metadata are generated by relating the zone information to the semantic information.
