PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door braking device usable in both of a sliding door for pulling to the right side and a sliding door for pulling to the left side easily and to provide a sliding door braking system provided with the sliding door braking device. SOLUTION: This sliding door braking device is provided with a pinion 7 capable of meshing with a rack arranged along the direction of opening and closing of the sliding door and a device main body 8 having a rotary central shaft on which the pinion 7 is mounted and a braking brake part for giving braking force to the pinion 7 through the rotary central shaft. The pinion 7 rotates integrally with the rotary central shaft only when it rotates in one direction to receive braking force from the braking brake part by action of an incorporated one-way clutch. The device main body 8 is provided with a pinion locking device 20 taking a pinion fixed position where a predetermined section is abutted on the rotary central shaft to prevent the pinion 7 from coming off the rotary central shaft and a pinion release position where the predetermined section leaves the rotary central shaft to attach and detach the pinion 7 to and from the rotary central shaft.
