627,176. Asymmetrically-conducting resistances. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 25, 1947, No. 20091. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1946. [Class 37] One or more rod-like metal contact type rectifiers are sealed within a tube 5 of glass or other insulating material by conductive end caps 6, 7 with means electrically connecting the ends of the one or more rectifiers to the end caps. Each rectifier comprises a conductive rod 1 of aluminium, iron or other metal having a selenium coating 2 and an outer metallic coating 3 as shown in the Figures. The electrical connecting means may comprise conductive material 4, Fig. 1, bonding the end caps with the electrodes 1, 3 of the rectifier or, Fig. 4, resilient cup-shaped members 14, 15 of conductive material may be disposed between the end caps and each rectifier whilst an insulating pad 16 inserted between each rectifier and one of its cup-shaped members is electrically byepassed by a flexible lead 17. Alternatively the electrical connecting means for each rectifier may comprise a spring bearing against one end cap and engaging a reduced end of the conductive rod so as to force an enlarged end of the rectifier against the other cap, these end caps having, if desired, depressions assisting in aligning the rectifier within the tube. |
