PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording reproducing device in which, when management information recorded on an optical disk does not coincide with the management information held in the recording reproducing device in advance at the time when the disk is inserted in the recording reproducing device, it is notified that the management information does not coincide, and the user is notified that recording/editing to the optical disk cannot be performed because of the inconsistency in advance. SOLUTION: When the optical disk is inserted in the recording reproducing device for a recordable optical disk which can record main data, such as a character, and the management information as subdata, such as manufacturer information, the management information recorded in the optical disk and the management information held in the recording reproducing device in advance are compared by a microcomputer. When the compared management information does not coincide each other, the inconsistency is notified as warning by a warming means, such as a display part arranged in a device connected to the recording reproducing device.
