An engine management system with EGR, especially for diesel engines, has a low pressure EGR to mix with incoming fresh air in a mixing point (11) before the compressor (3). The gas flows through the inlet system are monitored at different points over a set of parameters to provide a homogeneous burn with reduced carbon products and reduced nitrous oxides. The measured parameters are compared with programmed models to compute the optimum engine settings.
