PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chenille-shaped whisker having fine branch-like branches and a large surface area, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The chenille-shaped whisker is constituted of a backbone part and branch parts projected from its surface and comprises an oxide containing Cr or Al. The diameter and length of the backbone part are 10-1,000 nm and 0.1-1,000μm, respectively, and the diameter and length of each branch part are 1-100 nm and 5-5,000 nm, respectively. The branch parts are formed on the backbone part at intervals of 1-1,000 nm in the longitudinal direction. The chenille-shaped whisker is obtained by performing heat treatment in an inert gas atmosphere by using, as a raw material, metal containing Cr or Al, or the like. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
