PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen sensor capable of detecting gaseous hydrogen at a room temperature, dispensing with heating, having a power-saving structure, usable repeatedly after hydrogen detection is once finished, and usable for a long period, and a detection method of hydrogen. SOLUTION: This sensor has a hydrogen detection part comprising a semiconductor 2 and a hydrogen absorber 3 attached to at least a part of the surface thereof, and is equipped with pairs of electrodes 5, 6 arranged on the semiconductor across the attached position of the hydrogen absorber in the nonconducting state by the hydrogen absorber. Existence of hydrogen can be detected from a resistance value change of the semiconductor corresponding to the occurrence of hydrogen absorption into the hydrogen absorber measured between the pairs of electrodes.
