PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing exposure timing control with higher precision without using a BD sensor. SOLUTION: The time elapsing after passage of a reference mark 161 provided on a disc 160 rotating integrally with a polygon mirror is detected by a photointerrupter 151 before a laser beam is detected by a sensor 220 provided on the scanning unit manufacturing device 200 side is measured as the count of the number of pulses of reference clock and stored in a memory 180.
