PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing apparatus capable of accurately compensating temperature, and capable of highly accurately focusing. SOLUTION: Regarding the focusing apparatus, an object image transmitted through a photographing lens is divided into two images, and a distance between the two images is measured, and the deviation from the distance between the two images at focusing is obtained, and then, the defocusing quantity of the photographing lens is obtained, and the focusing apparatus is provided with a focus detecting element 1 having a plurality of photoelectric conversion elements, a temperature detecting means 2 arranged on the same IC chip on which the focusing detecting element 1 is arranged, a correcting means 3 for correcting the defocusing quantity detected by the focus detecting means 5, a time counting means 4 for counting an elapsed time after the power is supplied to the focus detecting element 1, and the focus detecting means 5 for detecting the focus based on the output of the focus detecting element 1, and detecting the defocusing quantity, and the defocusing quantity is corrected by the correcting means 3 based on the output of the temperature detecting means 2 obtained when the output of the time counting means 4 is lower than a prescribed value.
