PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a catechol derivative having fluorine atom at the 3-position in high yield and selectivity. SOLUTION: A compound (1) is lithiated by reacting with an alkyllithium in the presence of a diamine and the lithiation product is reacted with a compound (4) to obtain a compound (5). The hydrolysis of the compound (5) gives a compound (6). A compound (7) is produced by the oxidative decomposition reaction of the compound (5) or the compound (6).
