PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device structure small and simple with less restriction in setting posture capable of certainly feeding a sheet by preventing occurrence of failure such as jamming, even the sheet has some curving nature or bending at the leading end of the sheet. SOLUTION: This paper feeding device M is furnished with a sheet insertion part 11 to store and hold a check S, a paper feeding roller 20 having a circular arc part 23 and a chord part 24, a pressurizing member 30 to elastically energize the check S toward an outer peripheral surface of the paper feeding roller 20, a pressurizing member control mechanism 37 to displace the pressurizing member 30 to a position separated from the paper feeding roller 20 when the chord part 24 faces against the pressurizing member 30, a frictional separating pad 40 to separate one from a plurality of the checks S in accordance with rotation of the paper feeding roller 20, a pad control mechanism 47 to displace the frictional separating pad 40 to a position posisioning the leading end of the check S when the chord part 24 faces against the pressurizing member 30 and a sheet guiding part 16 contact width against the head end Sa of the check S of which increases toward the downstream side in the conveying direction of the check S.
