PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress reduction of the charge amount of a developer over time, to prevent the occurrence of surface stain and to maintain high-grade image quality, in an image forming apparatus having an applicator for applying a metallic salt of a fatty acid to a surface of an image carrier so as to improve the cleaning performance. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus comprising a photoreceptor 1 which carries a latent image, a development device 4 for developing latent image on the photoreceptor with a two-component developer consisting of toner and carrier, and an coating brush 21 for coating a metallic salt 22 of fatty acid to the surface of the photoreceptor 1, toner to which the same metallic salt that has been applied by the coating brush to the surface of the photoreceptor has been added, is used as the toner.
